Hal-isms, Vol. 24

"Did I ever tell you you're my Aurora Borealis?"

"How much more do you want me to say before I fall asleep?"

On therapy: "Like myself, for instance...self secure. Now people say that means you're not if you think you are. But I wouldn't go to somebody and say, 'I pissed on the grass. Is that OK?'"

"I want to be humble. But it's hard to be humble when everybody else is a dummy and you're the only smart one."

"It was one bottle of wine and two whiskeys. It takes all day to water the lawnd! <sic>  What do you think this is? I'm not a one-acre trailer house."

Okay Katy, does your dad normally call the Lawn, Lawnd? Because if he does, I think it must be a generational thing or they are related..my mom says, Lawnd. What is up with adding the "D"?

P.S...I can't believe I forgot the "D" in your name!!!! I meant, KADY. HMM, Maybe the "D" thing is an illness. One generation inappropriately uses it and then it skips a generation and that generations forgets to put in "D"'s.
    Goobye! ;o)

  4. This D thing: I had lunch with a cousin of Hal's yesterday and she was talking about mowing the lawnd. I practically passed out. I made her repeat it. LAWND. It must be a family thing. If anyone out there is Norwegian/English/Dutch, let me know, in case it is an ethnic slur or something.

  5. Don't get me started. Dad also adds an 'r' to the word 'wash'.

Kady and Mom...how about born..is it 'bornd'? My mom's brothers say it too! And I have to admit, it wasn't until I was a late teen that I realized I needed to 'wash' my hair, not 'worsh' it. I picked that up from my mom or Hal,.. although, I've never met Hal.

  9. Roxie, you are in luck....I was just going to advertise for a servant girl. I spent the day trying to get Hal to plant my garden.....my way. I told him at the end of a very horrible joyless time with him by saying, "How am I ever going to be like Scarlet and get my plantation perfect unless I get myself a servant girl." Would anyone out there invite him over for a week or so?
