Still Got It

While in Croatia, I ventured out alone to get brunch at a favorite cafe called The Black Cat. A favorite because they serve a typical English breakfast of eggs, bacon and sausage:

These cats were barking up the wrong tree, because this Lady don't give up no bacon:

This photo made me stop and think about the fact that I was dining solo, refusing scraps to a poor hungry cat, and taking pictures of my food. It suddenly made me feel very sad and alone.

...and so I ordered a beer. An old man at the next table approached me with his camera, and so I assumed that he wanted me to take a picture of him with his friends. There was some confusion and back-and-forth with the camera, and then I realized he wanted a photo of me. OK...when in Croatia? I let him take one. I even posed. I felt flattered. Later as I was finishing my beer the server was walking out with a beer in a nice big wine glass. I thought, 'There's how a lady should drink her beer, I'm going to order another one,' but she brought it to me! From the old man! Thanks!

Later still, I got up to use the restroom and had to walk right past the old man. His back was to me, and when he saw me, he exclaimed in English, "OH. MY. GOD."

Still got it.

London Natural History Museum

The London Natural History Museum is pretty cool. It's free. It's a decent walk from Victoria. But it's also a little bit weird.

This next part was in a little kid's section about reproduction and the human body. I think it's a teensy bit irresponsible to teach children that childbirth is a lovely, relaxing thing that can be done whilst sleeping:

They have lots of dinosaur bones, though. And that was cool.

Sunday Favorites: Embarrassing Ross

New to A Lady Reveals Nothing? You've missed SO MUCH. Not to worry. Every Sunday, I dig through the archives to repost an old favorite. Mostly because I'm too lazy to come up with new content every single day. Enjoy! This story originally appeared on October 5, 2009:

These first photos were in Iceland, and I thought he should act like one of the statues, but he wouldn't do it, and frankly I think he was embarrassed that I did do it. The ladies who took the picture were waiting for him to do something and he never did.

In this one it looks like he is participating, but he's not, he's trying to get out of the shot:

"Here Ross, let's stand by this statue and do something crazy. Yes, do something crazy.":

And, here's that exact scenario, in Oslo, with the exact same result:

"Here Ross, do hang loose, like Inge Bjart!" Nope.

"Work it!, Work it! Strut your stuff, yes that's good!"
"Shut up, Kady."

(On the fjord) "Ross, go be 'King of the World'."
"I don't even know what that is."
"You haven't seen Titanic? Jeez!"

Imitate the Statue, Vol. 4

Unintentional, but pretty good.

I am so good at this game.

I Call this My Nicaraguan Finger Wave

I stole this .GIF from Chelle at Coffee and Zombie Movies.*

I learned this little gesture in Nicaragua and let me tell you it really works. If you want to say no a little bit more forcefully than usual, for example when you get off a train and people attack you with signs for their hostel, but you already have your hostel booked. Maybe they won't leave you alone.

Or maybe a scary bum is following you trying to get money. You already said no politely. Maybe you need to shake him.

Just wag your finger and Voila! UNIVERSAL SNUB.

*I don't know where she stole it from.

Eiffel Tower Photo Special

One of my favorite things about traveling is to see some famous thing that I previously had only seen in photos. Obviously the Eiffel Tower is like a big one. This was my first time in France and in Paris and I was excited to see it. I even sort of worried about my outfit because I wanted to get the perfect picture of myself in front of it. Narcissist!

My first day in Paris I set out on my own to do some exploring. I was wandering around and turned a corner and this is what I saw. I've got no shame, and so I'll tell you that I totally teared up and got emotional. I don't know why.

Crybaby.

And here are some of my favorite photos. I took a million.

Poor dumb bird doesn't even know he's French.

Went all the way to the top!

Facing fears!

Faced some more fears as I walked down the stairs from the first level to the ground.

Hal-isms, Vol. 30, as Reported by Second-Favorite Daughter Kelly

Kelly is staying with my mom for eight weeks to help her take care of my dad as she recovers from her Hysterectomy. (Ha!)

She's being awesome and reporting some Hal-isms for me. Enjoy:

˝You can blog your sister: 'shopping with Dad, he's a wonderful man'

˝Kady was so loving and I was mad at her. Can you imagine how I feel about you right now?˝

˝We had 6 foot tomatoes this year. Well not the tomato itself.˝

Before I left I got these two:

"Why don't you do a blog on a pretend trip?"

"We're gonna fish, we're gonna hug and you libally won't get so many phone calls."

Hanna-isms, Vol. 2

"We started collecting shot glasses. Because we're those kind of people now."

"I don't want to move in with a homeless lady."

˝How are you supposed to set up a toy dinner with mismatched plates?˝

After I complemented her on her accomplishment of reaching 5 foot 2 inches in height:
˝I set that goal back when I was 4 foot 10. It seemed unthinkable back then. I figured that´s the tallest I could be without being a giant.˝

Sunday Favorites: Perfect Teeth

New to A Lady Reveals Nothing? You've missed SO MUCH. Not to worry. Every Sunday, I dig through the archives to repost an old favorite. Mostly because I'm too lazy to come up with new content every single day. Enjoy! This story originally appeared on March 6, 2009:

My parents raised me right, and so therefore I have always been very comfortable conversing with people of all ages. When I was maybe 7 or 8 I was chatting with this elderly gentleman and I was so impressed by his nice white straight teeth and so I told him so. I asked him, "did you have braces when you were a kid?" I went ON and ON about his awesome teeth.

Finally he said, "Do you want me to take them out so you can get a closer look?"

Mirfield England Photo Special

I met another British dude in South Africa in 2008. (You may remember that I ruined his brand new beautiful BMW M3...) So naturally I invited myself to stay with him up in Mirfield, near Leeds on this trip.

He brought us on a day trip up to York to see the Castle Museum and we had a very nice time walking in the Country.

Photo Special:

Leigh, on the left. South Africa, 2008. Pre-BMW incident.

Leigh's dining room table was a little inadequate.

A walk in the English Countryside.

York.

More York.

Mirfield.
